Back in the days of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, before green John Deeres pop-
popped across the farm landscape, much of the field work fell to the massive draft horses. The European Percheron, Shire, Belgian, Suffolk and Clydesdale breeds dominated the hitches of the day. The Singmaster family of Keokuk County, Iowa became America’s premier importer of these purebred horses.

Zangemeister/Singmaster Family History ca. 1300-2007 chronicles the family that Immigrated from Germany to eventually farm in Keokuk County.  This 430-page book is much more than horses. It details the life of one pioneer Iowa farm family from its German heritage to the present day.
