Legacy Series Process
Design and Editorial

We can be as turn key as you would like us to be. We have researched, interviewed and written manuscripts for books, but customarily text has been written by an emeritus faculty or a staff person. These people have an intimate knowledge of history, architecture and atmosphere of the institution. The text can be as short or as long as you would like. We have designed volumes with as little as one page chapter/section intros that allow the images and captions to tell the story, to full chapters that cover the entire history and still include a large selection of images and captions.

After an initial visit to campus, we request an initial rough chapter or two of text and a selection of images that we use to design the dust cover and chapter spreads. The concepts will be presented on campus and will define how grid format, typography, color and images will be addressed. We always request more images than will be used to give us ample selection. We do rely on the institution to tell us what must be included. We definitely prefer to be involved in developing the theme as it will impact the design. After concept approval and receipt of final manuscript and photographic and graphic images we scan all images and begin page out (page layout).

We will present two preliminary layouts for adjustments and approval. Image captions are normally added at the time of the first preliminary layout.
